“The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for Him and seek Him.” Lamentations 3:25
I have been thinking a lot here lately about perspective. What is my perspective from my little corner of the world? What is your perspective, and how do the two mesh? We can become guilty of thinking that our view is the only view, or the right view. Because of that we fail to walk in another shoes and not see life from their perspective.
As I see the picture of the man with the improvised shoes, it reminds me of the incredible people I met in Ethiopia a few years ago while on a mission trip. Believers who were willing to walk for many miles, some of them without shoes of even this comfort, to attend a church service, or to take course work to become ministers of the Gospel. All the while, risking their very lives that they would be able to gather with the Body of Christ and worship Him. Makes me question my comfortable perspective.
As I lace on my combat boots in support of our soldiers and airmen who are fighting on foreign soil to keep us safe tonight, it makes me question my comfortable perspective. To think that our son’s and daughter’s are sleeping in their boots tonight, ever on the ready to defend the cause of freedom while I can take mine off anytime I please. Some of them will even give their lives for that freedom while we enjoy the luxury their sacrifice affords us. How is that for perspective?
As I have been thinking about and soaking up this short verse from Lamentations, what does it mean to wait and to seek at the same time? Talk about seemingly different perspectives. At least at first glance. To “wait,” means to stay in place in expectation of something. While to “seek,” means to go in search of something. Our verse says the Lord is wonderful good to those who do both.
